Anatomy and physiology of the skin?

can any one explain the functions of the skin second one is heat regulation

10 points for best answer thanks in advance

Anatomy and physiology of the skin?
Protection - protective cover for underlying organs, stratum corneum as long as it remains intact acts as a barrier against bacterial invasion. sebum has antiseptic properties-melanin is the skins natural protection against ultraviolet light nad the langerhans cells help the immune system respond to the invasion of foreign bodies

temperature control - capillaries in the skin dilate when the temp rises and constrict when cold to keep heat in. evaporation of sweat from skin cools the body

sensation - skin contains nerve endings which send messages to the brain, nerve receptors are found at different levels in the skin- they react to pain pressure heat and cold.

absorption- skin is waterproof so very little absorption takes place, superficial layers (stratum corneum) absorbs small amounts of conditioning creams to improve conditions. passage via hair follicles for tiny amounts of water and fatty sunstances.

excretion and secretion - perspiration excreted by the sewat glands removing waste from skin, secretion is production of sebum from sebaceous glands and is the skins natural moisturiser, keeps skin soft and supple.

Vitamin production - ultraviolet rays convert 7 dehydrate cholesterol found in sebum into vitamin d which is necessary for the absorption of calcium and phospherous required by the body for healthy teeth and bones
Reply:protection from the elements..

regulates what is passed from inside the body to the outside (ie. pores..)

do you have an anatomy and physiology class?

you should look in the book...
