Are you ever prejudiced based on the color of someones skin or their race??

just curious. i love this show Without Prejudice and i was just like wow okay a question! so if you see a black person do you make any judgments based SOLELY on the fact that they're black? white ppl? and so on...or if you meet a black, asian, or hispanic person do you judge them based on whether or not they are dark/light skinned with ethnic/non ethnic features??

personally i think people who do this are extremely ignorant but you know thats just me. maybe because ive been exposed to diverse environments and different cultures its never been second nature to judge based on skin tone. i choose to judge based on character and behavior. im black too so i wouldnt want anyone judging me like that even though im sure they do.

Are you ever prejudiced based on the color of someones skin or their race??
I think that there are people who make snap judgements across a broad spectrum of criteria. "Skin alone" isn't the normal one, though... (In my opinion, the people who stop at just skin are really the racists) And, if you've ever been to any of the so-called "Black Colleges" you know that the frats and sors are delimited by "dark-skinned blacks" and "light-skinned blacks". Sad but true.... And, it is a shame that any minority group would segregate itself in that fashion.

I think it is more likely that a person will apply a prejudice based on other factors: Clothing. (Is he wearing a business suit, or baggy jeans?) Hygiene. (Does he look as though he cares for himself out of a sense of self respect?)

Like it or not, the idea that a person cares about themselves (and about their community) is probably the most important characteristic when the average folks are applying snap judgements. If you are being discriminated against, take a look at yourself in the mirror. Is there some reason that people would see you as lacking in self respect?
Reply:there is only one race its called human

and i'm embaressed to be a part of it
Reply:I guess everyone stereotypes to a certain extent, especially on first impression. I find, for instance, that the way a person dresses will have more influence over strangers than race. What do you think, as one example, when you see an obese slovenly dressed person smoking a cigarette? Aren't we all going to reach some sort of snap judgment?

The trick is to try not to.
Reply:I personally believe everyone is racist to someone, for whatever the reason maybe. Of course there are sterotypes, doesnt mean they are all true. I like to get to know someone before I judge them. I am white, so does this mean I will only be friends with white people? No. I could meet the nicest black person and the meanest white person. So who would I be friends with? Of course the black person. Basically, this is the world that we live in...everyone has some racism to someone else. But you should never hate anyone because of the color of their skin...because that clouds your judegment.

Hope that helps =]
Reply:Yep. I'm prejudiced.

Bleached blondes who are really brunettes give us real blondes a bad image. The only 'dumb blondes' are really bleached brunettes. How come they aren't ok with the way they are naturally?

Other than that, no, I do not judge someone by color at all. I judge people by how they act.
