Not your ordinary dry skin...?

ok, ok, i know, go to a dermatologist.... but what if i dont want to spend the money just yet? so please if you can help me do so, and if you cant dont be rude just to get two points...

on my face (of all places) my skin is very dry, like it itches, and appears dry and flakey from the outside, but when you take a closer look and remove some of the dry skin, which comes off in larger chunks, it is moist.....

i went to the doctor for it one time and she gave me a steriodal creme... if i use it it works, the second i quit its like the d-day on my face....

what skin conditions show these symptoms?

-dry flakey skin

-moist where the skin was removed (disgusting i know but a fungus type thing)

-itchy

-chronic reaccurance

all and any help is appreciated.

thanks.
